What Happened to my Skin?

Double Cleanse“Since coming to college I have had one breakout after the other. What gives?”

With so many changes in your life--food, stress levels, schedules, relationships--it’s no surprise that your skin takes a beating. Just what you don’t need – breakouts. So here’s a reminder: get back to the basics.

The basic must-have’s are a good cleanser and moisturizer with sunscreen. Check your products. Make sure they are for your skin type.

Do a double cleanse preferably at night so you don’t sleep in your make-up or grime from the day. Think of the first cleanse as removing the top layer of debris, and the second cleanse as giving your product a better chance of doing its thing which is to bind up and remove excess oils, toxins, and dead skin cells. That is a must in order to prevent the breakouts.

Then add the moisturizer. That is your skin’s protector so use it regularly, especially if your skin feels dry. Getting a daytime moisturizer that has a sunscreen and foundation right in it will save you time and money.

Got that down and still having breakouts? Take a minute to watch your diet. And do what you can to minimize the stress. Restore, Refresh, and Refocus. Get a massage. Get your exercise routine going. Find a local place for yoga and meditation, and by all means get a facial.

During your facial, your skin care therapist will analyze your skin type, do face mapping to determine causes of the breakouts, and give you recommendations for the best ways to minimize the problems and maximize your college experience. Your professional facial will also include customized procedures for treating whatever your skin care issues are (such as acne, rosacea, or scarring) for quicker recovery. Besides all that, facials are so relaxing.

The next best thing to a professional facial is maximizing benefits from your own skin care routine by using devices like the Clarisonic facial brush. It’s a rotary brush that uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to clean the skin, and gently removes 6X more makeup and 2X more dirt and oil than manual cleansing alone. Check it out at Invigorations. Use it just one minute a day and it will give you a handle on skin care issues in a hurry. It is fun to use and will give your complexion a healthy look.

While you are at Invigorations, ask for a sample of the effective Hit the Spot, Clearing Boosters or MediBac Masques to customize your skin care routine for the best skin ever. Consultation with a skin care therapist is free.

When parents want to know what they can do for you while you’re away at school, ask for a Gift Card to a skin care center like Invigorations Massage & Wellness Center here in Cortland so you can get regular treatments throughout the semester and especially during exams. It’s as good as a day-cation right in the midst of the stress. The return on the investment of time and money lingers well beyond the hour of treatment.
