Products: Dermalogica

DermalogicaWhat Makes Dermalogica Different?

Have you been in a drug store lately? A retail store? A mall? Watched SN TV? There are so many skin care products and cosmetics that a consumer could go nuts trying to keep up with it all. Then try to break all those products down into ingredients for consumer examination - you have 55,000 to look at. No one person can know all that. How can a person be an intelligent consumer when it comes to skin care products?

I can help a little by telling you what makes Dermalogica different. As a professional product line, Dermalogica has highly-active products with stronger percentages than over-the-counter lines. And these active ingredients work in a simple and effective manner. Here are some of the reasons why.

  • The products are acid balanced. Our skin has a natural pH which is exactly the right number for what the skin needs to take care. Proper balance keeps the acid mantle intact, a vital factor for preventing breakouts or damage to the skin.
  • The products are NOT just skin typed. The focus is more on skin conditions. Working with skin TYPE is vital, but immediate attention needs to go the current CONDITION. Skin type is what you are born with; condition is what accumulates over time or what happens to your skin as you live in the world where your skin is subjected to diet, exercise, products you put on your skin, environmental assault, indoor climate, where you live and what you live in. Types include: dry, oily, combination, sensitive, normal. Conditions include: dehydrated, couperose, sensitized, pigmentation, sun damage, pre-mature aging, congestion, breakouts. Conditions may eventually become disorders such as acne, rosacea, or pigmentation disorders. (Re: Sun damage Two hours in the sun can cause your skin to lose 25% of its Vitamin E.)
  • Ingredients. What is NOT in a product is as important as what IS.
    • Non-Comedogenic
    • No lanolin (This is sheep sebum, a known allergen. Dermalogica uses silk amino acids and vegetable squalane as natural moisturizing agents.)
    • No mineral oil (This has a large molecular size and can cause milia and pore clogging. Dermalogica uses lightweight, natural vegetable oils as emollients.)
    • No artificial colors or fragrances (These are known to cause problems for some people. They have the potential for allergic and comedogenic reactions. Hyperpigmentation problems can be linked to perfumes or artificial fragrances even when used years ago. There is not physical benefit so why take the risk?)
    • No S.D. Alcohol Dermalogical uses naturally-astringent botanical extracts and oil-absorbing clays rather than ingredients that may strip or dehydrate the skin.
    • No formaldehyde This is known to cause respiratory problems. Dermalogica uses food grade preservatives and natural Vitamin E to ensure stability.
    • No Glycolics Glycolics have the smallest molecular AHA known so can penetrate faster and deeper than any other. But the down side is that it too easily can go TOO deep and break down the INTERcellular structure of the skin. This can cause sensitizing and pre-mature aging. Dermalogica uses salicylic and lactic acids. They are proven to stimulate cell turnover like the glycolics but with less irritation. So you get the same job done with less irritation.
  • All cleansers are water soluble. There will be no damaging detergent residues.
  • Dermalogica products are packaged in the hygienic containers to avoid contact contamination.
  • And there is NO ANIMAL TESTING done for the research or any other part of the production of these products.
