Dana Shoemaker, LMSW, LMT
NYS Licensed Massage Therapist, Licensed Master of Social Work

Dana ShoemakerDana offers clients services in Swedish Massage, Sports Massage and Active Isolated Stretching, Spa Facelift Massage, and Oncology Massage.

She is also currently studying to become a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, or BCST, is a light-pressure technique that can affect the very deep and primary patterns that we hold in the body which cause us pain and stress. BCST works with the Core of our Being and provides the time and space for the body to get in touch with its own healing wisdom, helping these issues to safely resolve or improve. BCST is beneficial for issues ranging from chronic pain and chronic diseases, depression, anxiety and trauma. Since Dana is still studying for her certification in this modality, it is not yet offered as a stand-alone service but is something that can be incorporated into her massage sessions if the client wishes.

Dana also offers Oncology Massage services. The client’s unique situation and cancer treatment protocol are taken into account and adjustments to pressure, positioning, and draping are made as needed to ensure a safe and relaxing session. Dana recently studied Oncology Massage Therapy techniques with Tracy Walton, one of the country’s most renowned Oncology Massage educators.

Dana studied massage at the Center for Natural Wellness in Albany, NY. She is also a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) and has worked as a social worker for individuals with developmental disabilities and in a hospital setting. She believes the mind-body connection is undeniable and that stress often manifests itself in physical pain. Her greatest joy is helping clients achieve pain relief in a natural way through massage.

Dana enjoys yoga, is an experienced ballroom dancer, and is a wine enthusiast. She lives in Ithaca with her husband.

"Stress and a busy schedule go right to my neck and shoulders. I started therapeutic massage with Janet at my chiropractor's recommendation more than a year ago, and I have since made a massage a regular part of my preventive health care.

Between visits I use stretching exercises I learned from Janet. What a difference.

I have had massages with others, but Janet's skill and care are unique. It truly seems like a calling for her.

We are very fortunate to have Invigorations in our area."
